1/5 Quebec drivers think red cars mean higher premiums: study
Help your clients better understand their policies

One in five auto policyholders in Quebec think driving a red car means paying higher premiums, a survey from the Groupement des assureurs automobiles found.
“We know that insurance is not a favourite topic among consumers, but since motorists are required to be insured, it is in their best interest to know what their policy covers,” Anne Morin, head of public affairs at the GAA, said in a release.

It’s not a huge problem if a policyholder picks out a silver car instead of a scarlet one, but the GAA also found many Quebec drivers don’t know a whole lot about how their policies work. It found:
- 23 per cent believe they must call the police after an accident, even if nobody is injured;
- 42 per cent don’t know insurers determine compensation after an accident based, in part, on who is at fault;
- 44 per cent think they have to pay deductibles even after a collision for which they’re not at fault;
- 69 per cent don’t think their policy covers them after a collision for which they’re not at fault, even if their vehicle isn’t damaged.
