Insurance claims for vehicles are way up in Newfoundland and Labrador, with many more than double those in some other Atlantic provinces.

The Insurance Bureau of Canada says it doesn’t know why that is, but hopes a pending review of automobile insurance will provide some answers.

The bureau says that from 2004 to 2014, the average increase in claims cost went up by 41 per cent in the province.

It says rates are based on risk and the likelihood of a claim.
