According to an IBAO member survey done this year, 94% of participants reported that a Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) designation increased competence on the job, while 93% reported that CAIB increased their confidence and abilities.

Speaking at the IBAO’s annual education awards ceremony, held at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in downtown Toronto on Wednesday, November 23rd, president-elect Traci Boland said in addition, that “86% of broker owners reported that the CAIB designation brought real value back to their respective brokerages.”

“While we always knew that a designation was a critical step as a broker professional, we were pleased to learn how critical of a step it was for our members,” she said. “These statistics send a clear message: A CAIB broker is a better broker. It distinguishes the employed from the professionals,” Boland said.

Broker education is one of the pillars of the IBAO, Boland said, “in conjunction with advocacy and sustainability of the broker channel,” which is why the IBAO recognizes top achievers for outstanding achievements and celebrates education efforts by brokers “who have chosen to invest in themselves to work harder for Ontario consumers, brokers who dedicate their time to teaching new brokers, broker owners who invest in their students, teachers and facilitators who have dedicated their career efforts to transferring knowledge to the broker community, and insurance companies who understand that the betterment of their business relies on an educated sales force.”

“Education is just another important example of where we are as a team. Together, everyone achieves more,” she said.

If the insurance industry is to succeed in future, a “team approach” will be key, Boland told attendees. She urged role-players to “come together”, and that meant “brokers, broker management system companies and insurance companies, all working together towards a common goal. In order to collaborate, communicate and integrate – we need a team,” she said – a message she first emphasized at the IBAO’s Convention last month.

The Top Ontario CAIB student for this year is Jesse Poulin from McFarland Rowlands Insurance Brokers in London, Ont., who graduated with an overall average of 95%.

Beyond Best In Class (BBIC) Graduates for this year, who significantly outperformed other brokers in multiple categories, are: Greg Krug from James W. Kloepfer Insurance Brokers LTD., David Elliot from Elliot Insurance Services, Joanna Easby from Allen Insurance Group and Brian Schaafsma from Allen Insurance Group.
