The July 8, 2016 thunderstorms north of Toronto caused $30 million in insured damage, according to CatIQ.
“Severe storms have been happening more often and with greater intensity across Ontario,” said Kim Donaldson, Vice-President, Ontario, IBC.
The storms, which hit Orillia, Markdale, Bradford and the surrounding areas, produced winds of up to 100 km per hour, lightning, heavy rain and hail.
Most of the property damage was caused by hail and strong winds, which damaged roofs, siding and windows on homes and other buildings, and dented cars and broke their windshields. Hail also caused significant crop damage.
