Brokerage Lackner McLennan in Waterloo, Ont. purchased Kitchener-based Erb and Erb Insurance Brokers on July 29, 2016.

“Although it likely would have been advantageous, we did not entertain any offers from insurance companies, brokers, or other entities outside of the Waterloo Region,” James Chmiel, president of Erb and Erb, said in a release.

The firms will continue to operate as separate entities over the next few years to provide continuity for customers and staff.

Combined, the companies have a market share of $55 million in gross written premiums, which “means we have more clout and authority to work with our insurance partners on behalf of our clients. This means we can provide better products,” Dean McKillop, partner at Lackner McLennan, said in a release.
