More than a third of long weekend road deaths and injuries occur on the Friday, data from Manitoba Public Insurance shows.
On average, more than 80 people are injured and one person is killed over a long weekend, MPI’s claims data from 2011-2015 found.

In the first half of 2016, 44 people were killed on public roads in Manitoba. That’s a 22 percent jump from the last five years, when an average of 36 people were killed on public roadways in the first half of the year.
“There is never a safe time to drive distracted, fatigued or impaired,” said Ward Keith, Business Development, Communications & Chief Product Officer, Manitoba Public Insurance.
