Driving while high is safe… If you believe the 44 percent of Canadians who’ve done it
Most Canadians believe legal system isn’t ready for marijuana
May 18, 2016
Almost half of Canadians who’ve gotten behind the wheel after smoking a joint say it’s perfectly fine.
With legalization approaching, a StateFarm survey asked 3,000 Canadians about driving under the influence of marijuana. The majority of responders seemed concerned that the legal system isn’t ready to handle a new kind of impaired driving. And they should be.
For one thing, with marijuana, it’s not as easy as aBreathalyzer test. And another study out of Washington, D.C. found that found that fatal crashes involving drivers who recently used marijuana doubled after the state legalized the drug in December 2012.
Still, it seems that many Canadians who have driven under the influence feel like they’re in control of the vehicle. Of those, 20 percent said that nothing could really stop them from continuing to drive high.
