If you ever needed to question the robust nature of the Honda’s iconic CT110 postie bike, look no further than the Desert Storming Posties fundraising charity ride. Some 28 adventurous postie bike riders recently completed a crossing of the Nullarbor Plain from Glendambo, South Australia, to Perth, Western Australia, in order to raise vital funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

According to organizer Phil Hodgens, the event was a resounding success, with some $56,000 raised for the RFDS, which provides urgent medical assistance throughout Australia’s remote Outback.

“From Glendambo, we traced the Transcontinental Railway 400km west through deep sand to the deserted railway siding of Watson,” said Hodgens. The group then crossed the Nullarbor, skirted the towering cliffs of the Great Australian Bight, headed inland again for Cocklebiddy, then rode to Israelite Bay, Cape Arid, Balladonia, Norseman and Hyden, before doing battle with peak hour traffic in Perth.

The journey covered a total of 3500km, through some of Australia’s most remote and harshest terrain. “While there were some mishaps, all of the bikes made it to the finish without mechanical failure, which is an awesome testament to the reliability of the little Hondas,” said Hodgens.

“We would like to thank Honda MPE for its very generous support, and Rob Wheeler from Desert Tracks Motorcycle Tours, who also gave us some great support in the form of a support vehicle and his patience!” he added.
