HPI launches new equipment provenance checkFor motorcycle riders one of the most important aspects of ownership is ensuring that their bike is safe from theft or damage.

Criminals could regard a top-of-the-range motorbike as being a prime target for stealing and it is important that people taking every precaution necessary to avoid an incident like this happening. With this in mind HPI, the UK’s leading vehicle information provider, has unveiled the first ever equipment provenance check available for motorbikes as well as vans, caravans and motorhomes which include construction and agricultural machines.

The CESAR provenance check is an online service which delivers complete history checks for people that buy and sell used construction and agricultural machinery. HPI stated that every year around 4,000 items of this ilk with a combined worth of over £150 million are stolen. This adds to the £650 million that theft costs the country on an annual basis.

Officials at HPI explained that CESAR works by using data from the DVLA and the police to compile an online report to reveal a vehicle’s “hidden history”. All users need to carry out this check is a machine’s 17 character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), registration plate (VRM), or unique CESAR mark and then the checks can be made at any time through the simple click of a mouse.

Kevin Howells, managing director, Datatag ID Limited, said: “There is a desperate need for a new service that helps to reduce the impact of equipment theft and finance and insurance fraud.

“There are simply too many criminals preying on the unwary, trading in stolen or cloned machines or involved in selling machines that they do not own. The CESAR provenance check will be a positive help to legitimate dealers and end users.”

As a biker you will no doubt want to keep your pride and joy protected and remove the threat of any fraudulent activity so this could prove highly beneficial.
