T-Swift’s fans in China insure against her break-ups


The businesses have since been shut down

For a few glorious moments, Taylor Swift’s fans in China could insure against heartbreak if the singer and her beau Tom Hiddleston call it quits.

And then e-commerce business Taobao, on which the “policies” were being sold, shut down all relationship insurance businesses, claiming it was a type of betting, which is illegal in China.

While it lasted, fans could receive double their money if the pair split. One bookie saw 543 transactions, and another said the most a policyholder spend was 400 yuan, or roughly $75 CAN.


But while Hiddleswift fans won’t have extra cash to console themselves if the celeb couple don’t last, they can bet on their own love lives.


“There is even a policy for single people where if they meet a partner within a month of placing their bet then they will be given 13.14 yuan, which symbolises lifetime in Chinese,” state news agency Xinhua reported.
